US stock market opens lower

NEW YORK (AA) - The stock market opened lower on Friday as key macroeconomic data fell below expectations.

The Dow lost 31 points to start trading at 22,841 and the S&P 500 fell 4 points to 2,550.

The Nasdaq decreased 12 points to begin the day at 6,591.

Consumer price index in September rose 0.5 percent, compared with the previous month, and 2.2 percent, from the same time a year ago, the U.S. Department of Labor announced earlier in the day. The market expectation for the data was an increase of 0.6 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively.

Retail sales rose 1.6 percent in September, below the market expectation of a 1.7 percent increase.
