US stock market opens lower
Oil market focuses on OPEC meeting in Algeria
By Ovunc Kutlu
NEW YORK (AA) – New York’s stock market opened lower Tuesday with the decline in oil prices.
The Dow Jones fell 32 points to begin the day at 18,062 and the S&P 500 was down three points at 2,142. The Nasdaq decreased three points to start the day at 5,254.
At the first bell, American benchmark West Texas Intermediate was down 2.4 percent to $44.72 per barrel. International benchmark Brent crude traded at $46.67 a barrel with a 2.3 percent decline.
Oil prices could fall even further if OPEC members fail to reach a collective agreement to freeze their individual production levels, experts warn.
OPEC's informal meeting in Algeria will be concluded on Wednesday.
