US stock market opens lower amid disappointing data
Trade deficit widens to highest level in nine months
NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market started the final trading day of the week with losses amid disappointing macroeconomic data.
The Dow lost 50 points to open at 19,849, while the S&P fell three points to 2,265.
The Nasdaq declined two points to begin the day at 5,485.
The U.S. economy added 156,000 jobs in December, the Department of Labor announced earlier Friday. The market expectation for the data was 175,000.
Trade deficit in November rose 6.6 percent from the previous month to reach $45.2 billion, to mark its highest level in the last nine months, the Department of Commerce said. The market expected deficit to be $42.5 billion.
