US stock market opens mixed

NEW YORK (AA) - The U.S. stock market opened mixed on Wednesday with rise in Apple shares and disappointing private sector jobs data.

The Dow Jones Industrial Index added 48 points to open at 22,011 points, climbing above the critical threshold of 22,000 points, and hitting a new record.

The Nasdaq rose 10 points to begin trading at 6,373 points, while the S&P 500 lost less than a point to open flat at 2,475 points.

Apple shares soared at the opening after the tech giant said Tuesday that it had seen its net income and revenue increase by 11.5 percent and 7.1 percent, respectively, in the third quarter, compared to the same period last year.

After closing Tuesday at $150.05 a share, Apple's stock price gained 6.1 percent to open at $159.28 per share on Wednesday morning.

American private sector added 178,000 jobs in July, according to the ADP National Employment Report released earlier Wednesday. The market expectation was 190,000.
