US stock markets open lower
Donald Trump's immigration policies sow uncertainty in the markets
NEW YORK (AA) – U.S. stock markets opened Monday with losses after President Donald Trump's immigration policies caused investors to take a cautious stance.
The Dow fell 99 points to begin the first trading day of the new week at 19,993, falling below the symbolic threshold of 20,000 points.
The S&P 500 declined 12 points to 2,281 and the Nasdaq lost 39 points to 5,621.
Trump signed an executive action last Wednesday to deport undocumented immigrants involved in criminal activity, and another Friday that effectively denies entry to refugees from seven "terror-prone" Muslim-majority countries.
The president's policies on immigration created uncertainty for investors, who took a sell-off position in the market early Monday, according to analysts.
