US stocks begin lower, threatening to end longest winning streak in 2 years
Oil prices up around 1.5%

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks were in negative territory Thursday, threatening to end their longest winning streak in two years.
The S&P 500 was down four points, or 0.08%, to 4,378 at 10.16 a.m. EDT, after it closed Wednesday in the green for the eighth day in a row.
The Nasdaq fell five points, or 0.01%, to 13,650 as the tech-heavy index finished the previous session with gains, extending its winning streak to nine consecutive days.
Both indexes Wednesday recorded their longest daily winning streak since November 2021.
The Dow, meanwhile, was down 87 points, or 0.26%, to 34,025.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1.45% to 14.66. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 1.1% to 4.577%.
The dollar index shed 0.12% to 105.46, while the euro added 0.06% to $1.0713 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.4% to $1,959 an ounce and silver adding 1.5% to $22.89.
Oil prices were up around 1.5%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $80.75 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $76.53.
