US stocks close with losses

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock exchanges closed with losses on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 64 points, or 0.17%, to finish the day at 38,563. The S&P 500 lost 30 points, or 0.6%, to 4,975.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, fell 144 points, or 0.92% to 15,630.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, jumped 4.8% to 15.48. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.46% to 4.275%.

The dollar index fell 0.23% to 104.05, while the euro rose 0.06% to $1.0810 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.3% to $2,024 per ounce and silver increasing 0.1% to $23.01.

Oil prices were mixed, with global benchmark Brent crude adding 0.06% to $82.59 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude falling 1.54% to $76.78.
