US stocks close with mixed numbers

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stock closed mixed Wednesday.

The Dow was up 172 points, or 0.44%, to finish the day at 39,056. The S&P 500, on the other hand, was flat and closed at 5,187.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, was down almost 30 points, or 0.18%, to end the session at 16,302.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, fell 1.6% to 13.02. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.83% to 4.496%.

The dollar index rose 0.13% to 105.55, while the euro shed 0.07% to $1.0745 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed, with gold losing 0.22% to $2,309 per ounce and silver increasing 0.25% to $27.30.

Oil prices were in the green, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 0.72% to $83.76 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude gaining 1.07% to $79.22.
