US stocks end lower after failing to recover
Precious metals continue to rise, gaining 0.9%

ANKARA (AA) - US major stock indices closed lower Wednesday, failing to recover from previous losses.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended down 211 points, or 0.58%, at 35,931. The S&P 500 fell 12 points, or 0.26%, to 4,688.
The tech-heavy Nasdaq decreased 52 points, or 0.33%, to finish the day at 15,921.
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, was up 4.2% at 17.06 at the time of the final bell.
The yield on 10-year US Treasury notes fell 2.3% to 1.596%, posting its largest single day loss in over a week, while the dollar index declined 0.12% to 95.80.
Oil prices were down more than 2%, with international benchmark Brent crude falling 2.2% to $80.58 a barrel. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude declined 2.5% to $77.72 a barrel.
Precious metals continued their gains, rising around 0.9%. Gold was at $1,867 per ounce and silver stood at $25.06.
After plummeting to $58,373 at 5 a.m. EDT, Bitcoin was trading just above $60,200 for a 0.4% increase.
