US stocks open higher on Friday

Gold rises 0.8% to $2,364 per ounce

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened with gains on Friday.

The Dow Jones was up 179 points, or 0.45%, to 39,569 at 9.39 a.m. EDT (1339GMT). The S&P 500 rose 20 points, or 0.39%, to 5,234.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 65 points, or 0.4%, to 16,411 at the time.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1% to 12.81. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.9% to 4.491%.

The dollar index was flat at 105.24, while the euro was steady at $1.0782 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.8% to $2,364 per ounce and silver increasing 0.1% to $28.34.

Oil prices were up 0.6% with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.28 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $79.82.
