US stocks open Monday higher after record week
Precious metals in negative; oil prices show small gains

ISTANBUL (AA) - Major stock exchanges in the US opened higher Monday after posting records last week.
The Dow Jones added 67 points, or 0.17%, to finish at 39,193 at 9.37 a.m. EDT after the blue-chip index last week gained 1.3%.
The S&P 500 rose seven points, or 0.14%, to 5,095. For the week, the index increased 1.66%.
Both the Dow and the S&P 500 closed Friday at their new record-high levels.
The Nasdaq, meanwhile, added 24 points, or 0.15%, to 16,020 at the time. The tech-heavy index posted a gain of 1.4% last week.
The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1.3% to 13.95, while the 10-year US Treasury yield was unchanged at 4.260%.
The dollar index lost 0.14% to 103.96, while the euro added 0.29% to $1.0829 against the greenback.
Precious metals were in negative, with gold losing 0.34% to $2,028 per ounce and silver decreasing 1.6% to $22.59.
Oil prices showed small gains, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 0.14% to $80.91 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude increasing 1.6% to $76.60.
