US stocks open Thursday mixed

ISTANBUL (AA) — US stock exchanges opened Thursday on a mixed note.

The Dow Jones fell 134 points, or 0.36%, to 37,132 at 9.49 a.m. EDT (1449GMT). The S&P 500, on the other hand, rose 12 points, or 0.27%, to 4,752.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq, meanwhile, increased 136 points, or 0.92%, to 14,992.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, lost 2.6% to 14.41. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.4% to 4.122%.

The dollar index increased 0.1% to 103.54, while the euro shed 0.25% to $1.0854 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed with gold adding 0.3% to $2,012 per ounce but silver trimming 0.24% to $22.50.

Oil prices were slightly in the green, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 0.08% to $77.94 per barrel, but US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude increasing 0.22% to $72.64 a barrel.
