US stocks open Thursday mixed

ISTANBUL (AA) - US stocks opened mixed on Thursday.

The Dow Jones was down 26 points, or 0.07%, to 39,029 at 9.39 a.m. EDT (1339GMT). The S&P 500 was flat at 5,187.

The Nasdaq, on the other hand, was up almost four points, or 0.03%, to 16,306 at the time.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 1.8% to 13.24. The 10-year US Treasury yield added 0.34% to 4.498%.

The dollar index lost 0.1% to 105.45, while the euro added 0.16% to $1.0762 against the greenback.

Precious metals were on the rise, with gold adding 0.4% to $2,318 per ounce and silver increasing 1.6% to $27.77.

Oil prices were up 0.1% with global benchmark Brent crude at $83.67 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $79.16.
