US strikes on Venezuela a 'clear violation' of international law, says German lawmaker
'The federal government must clearly and unequivocally condemn Washington's escalations,' says Left Party's Soren Pellmann

LONDON (AA) - A German lawmaker on Saturday urged the country's federal government to "clearly and unequivocally" condemn US strikes on Venezueal that he called a "clear violation" of international law.
"The fact that, according to US reports, President Maduro was captured and taken out of the country is a further dangerous escalation and is absolutely incompatible with law and the international order," said The Left Party (Die Linke) lawmaker Soren Pellmann.
The US attack on Caracas is a "clear violation of international law," he said in a statement shared by the Left Party on US social media company X.
Urging the German government to "clearly and unequivocally" condemn Washington's "escalations," he said Berlin must also intervene at the UN level and immediately advocate for a UN Security Council session on the matter.
Earlier, Venezuela’s government accused the US of attacking civilian and military installations in multiple states, and declared a national emergency.
US President Donald Trump confirmed the "large scale" strike on his social media platform Truth Social, claiming Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife were "captured and flown out of the country."
The attacks came after months of climbing US pressure on Maduro, who Washington accuses of being involved in drug trafficking. The Venezuelan leader had denied the claims and expressed readiness for talks.
Venezuela's Vice President Delcy Rodriguez said they were "unaware" of Maduro's whereabouts, demanding the Trump administration provide "proof of life of President Maduro."
