ISTANBUL (AA) - US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday said ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is "holding," as Israel conducted airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave.
“The president achieved a historic peace in the Middle East, the ceasefire is holding. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t going to be little skirmishes here and there,” Vance told Fox News.
He added that Hamas or another group in Gaza recently attacked an Israeli soldier, and “we expect the Israelis are going to respond — but I think the president's peace is going to hold."
The Israeli army launched a series of strikes across the Gaza Strip on Tuesday following orders from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "to immediately carry out forceful strikes," who accused Hamas of violating the truce.
The ceasefire agreement has been in place in Gaza since Oct. 10 under US President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan, which includes the release of Israeli in exchange for Palestinian prisoners and rebuilding of the enclave.
Israel has killed more than 68,000 people, mostly women and children, and injured over 170,000 others in Gaza since October 2023.
