Uzbek president urges EU economic dialogue ahead of Samarkand summit
Mirziyoyev highlights Trans-Caspian corridor, green energy, and WTO accession in meeting with bloc's foreign policy chief

ISTANBUL (AA) – Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday met EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas to discuss boosting economic cooperation and preparing for the upcoming Central Asia - European Union summit in the capital Samarkand.
According to the Uzbek presidency, the two sides discussed strengthening collaboration in key areas such as trade, digitalization, green energy, logistics, and infrastructure.
Particular focus was given to the Trans-Caspian transport corridor and the implementation of joint projects through effective mechanisms.
Mirziyoyev also underlined the significance of holding the first Central Asia - EU summit on April 3-4 in Samarkand.
“Today’s multilateral ministerial meeting in Ashgabat was productive and shows our commitment to regional dialogue,” the Uzbek leader said.
Discussions also covered Uzbekistan’s ongoing talks to join the World Trade Organization and finalize a new enhanced partnership and cooperation agreement with the EU.
Both sides also exchanged views on pressing international and regional developments.
