Wall Street closes higher with strong data, tech gains

Dow finishes at new record high

NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street closed higher Tuesday with strong macroeconomic data and gains in tech stocks.

The Dow added 35 points to end the day at 19,251 -- a new all-time high.

The S&P added seven points to 2,212 and the Nasdaq increased 24 points to 5,333.

Factory orders, which measures the value of new orders placed in manufacturers, jumped 2.7 percent in October, its strongest monthly gain since June 2015. The data for September was also revised to 0.6 percent, from 0.3 percent.

Tech companies' stock prices also gained Tuesday.

Netflix saw its shares rise 4.5 percent, while telecommunications giants AT&T had its stock prices increase 1.8 percent.
