Wall Street closes lower after weak Chinese data
Disappointing export, import figures raise concerns
NEW YORK (AA) – Wall Street closed lower Thursday after weak Chinese data raised concerns about low global growth pushed world markets lower.
China's exports in September declined 10 percent, compared to the same month a year ago. The country's imports also contracted 1.9 percent year-on-year.
The disappointing data about the well-being of the world's second largest economy was felt in Europe.
At the end of the day, Germany's DAX, the FTSE in London and France's CAC 40 were all down about 1 percent.
Declines in European stocks had its toll on this side of the Atlantic.
The Dow Jones fell 44 points to end the day at 18,099 and the S&P 500 was down six points to 2,132. The Nasdaq decreased 25 points to finish at 5,213 -- it's lowest closing in a month.
