NEW YORK (AA) - Wall Street closed mixed Friday as Republicans fell short of enough votes to pass a new health care bill in the House of Representatives.
Th Dow fell 59 points to close the day at 20,596 and recorded a weekly decline of 1.5 percent -- its biggest since September.
The S&P lost two points to 2,343 and posted a weekly loss of 1.4 percent.
The Nasdaq added 11 points to finish the day at 5,828 — falling i1.2 percent for the week.
Repealing and replacing Obamacare was the cornerstone of Trump's election campaign. But in the first major legislative test of his presidency, Trump failed to deliver on his promise after at least two dozen Republicans had enough concerns about the new health bill to withhold their support.
The turn of events in which Republicans have control of the House, Senate and White House, have cast a shadow over whether Trump will be able to pass a much touted tax reform bill investors and corporations await impatiently.
Investors will now closely watch what comes next for the health care bill, and when Trump will unravel details about his tax reform that is believed to not yet even be on the drawing board.
