Washington ‘bans’ UK from sharing US-derived intelligence with Ukraine: Report

Anadolu approaches UK Foreign Ministry for comment, but spokesperson reiterated government’s longstanding policy of not commenting on matters relating to intelligence

LONDON (AA) - Washington has “banned” the UK from sharing US-derived intelligence with Ukraine, according to the Daily Mail.

This reportedly will have an impact on several key UK agencies, including the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the Ministry of Defense, and military intelligence outlets, the Daily Mail reported.

Anadolu approached the UK Foreign Ministry for comment, but a spokesperson reiterated the government’s longstanding policy of not commenting on matters relating to intelligence.

The report came after US President Donald Trump’s announcement to freeze American military aid to Kyiv, a decision that has raised alarms over the future of Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

For the past three years, Ukraine has relied heavily on intelligence shared by the UK and other Western security partners, such as Australia and New Zealand, which were granted access to US-generated intelligence under a classification known as ‘Rel UKR’ (Releasable to Ukraine).

CIA Director John Ratcliffe and National Security Adviser Michael Waltz both have said that the US has paused intelligence sharing in addition to military aid.

On Feb. 28, a heated exchange occurred between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Trump and Vice President JD Vance at the Oval Office. As Zelenskyy expressed doubt that diplomacy could result in peace, Trump and Vance criticized the Ukrainian leader for not being grateful for US support.
