World Economic Forum's Davos Agenda kicks off virtually

Online meetings to continue through Jan. 29

GENEVA / BERLIN (AA) - The World Economic Forum's Davos Agenda kicked off Monday virtually with the participation of leading business people, politicians, academics and civil society representatives from 70 countries.

The meeting was opened by Chinese President Xi Jinping under the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic which has claimed over 2.13 million lives and slowed down economic activity globally.

The meeting will run through Jan. 29.

The events of the past year have disrupted work, education and society, and the Davos Agenda will discuss these challenges and their solutions.

Germany's Economy Minister Peter Altmaier, France's Economy Ministry Bruno Le Maire, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde and German automaker Volkswagen's CEO Herbert Diess will gather for a discussion on Restoring Economic Growth in the current state of affairs.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and US President Joe Biden's Chief Health Advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci will take the floor in the session titled, Responding to the COVID-19 Crisis.

The annual Davos Summit traditionally held in January was postponed to May this year. The venue was also moved to Singapore.
