ISTANBUL (AA) – The World Future Energy Summit opened in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), on Tuesday to explore ways of advancing clean energy and sustainability.

The 3-day summit sees a 25% increase in this year’s participation compared to last year, said the UAE state-owned renewables firm Masdar.

This year’s event hosts over 30,000 participants from around the world, including government officials, industry leaders, and sustainability advocates.

In his opening speech, Emirati Minister of Industry Sultan Al Jaber said the UAE entered a new phase in the field of nuclear energy with operating four units of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

He added that his country is set to announce on Tuesday the launch of the first renewable energy facility that will produce 1 gigawatt of uninterrupted clean power, describing the project as a significant step in transforming renewable energy into baseload power.
