World Health Organization delivers fuel to 2 hospitals in Gaza

Only a few hospitals are still operating in northern Gaza Strip

ANKARA (AA) - The World Health Organization (WHO) said Wednesday that it delivered fuel to two hospitals in the northern Gaza Strip.

Since Israel began its onslaught on Gaza on Oct. 7, it has barred the entry of fuel into the enclave.

But small amounts have been brought into Gaza under UN supervision in recent days, of which very limited quantities have reached its northern parts.

"The WHO and partners delivered 7,000 liters of fuel to Al-Ahli Arab Hospital and 3,500 liters to Al Sahaba Hospital in northern Gaza," said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

He also said the convoy that reached the two hospitals delivered health supplies as well, including medication and surgical kits.

"Today's activities were the latest in ongoing work by the WHO to provide life-saving assistance to hospitals, health workers and patients," he added.

Nearly all hospitals in Gaza City and northern areas of Gaza went out of service due to Israeli attacks and a lack of fuel, except for a few hospitals still operating partially, including Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, Al-Awda Hospital and Kamal Adwan Hospital, according to a previous statement by the Gaza Health Ministry.

Qatar announced an agreement late Monday to extend an initial four-day humanitarian pause in Gaza for two more days, under which further prisoner exchanges would be carried out.

Israel launched a massive military campaign in the Gaza Strip following a cross-border attack by the Palestinian group Hamas on Oct. 7.

It has since killed over 15,000 people, including 6,150 children and 4,000 women, according to health authorities in the enclave.

The official Israeli death toll stands at 1,200.
