ROME (AA) - The world premiere of the seventh Mission: Impossible movie was held on Monday in the Italian capital Rome.

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, was completed in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Along with Cruise and McQuarrie, British actresses Hayley Atwell and Vanessa Kirby, British actor Simon Pegg, Korean-French actress Pom Klementieff and American actor Esai Morales hit the red carpet on the famous Spanish Steps.

"My goal since I was little was to make movies and travel the world. And not just be a tourist, but to work in that world and live there and understand their culture," said Cruise.

“Through my movies, I’ve been able to have that because everyone here has allowed me to entertain them. It’s a privilege that I have never taken for granted," he added.

The latest film of the series will show Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his Impossible Missions Force (IMF) team embark on their "most dangerous mission yet" to track down a new weapon that threatens humanity before it falls into the wrong hands.

Meanwhile, Cruise was received by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the Chigi Palace in Rome.

"Glad that the capital of Italy is the protagonist of Tom Cruise’s latest film. Today in Rome the world premiere. The ‘mission impossible’ are also our daily bread in government," Meloni said in a post on Instagram, sharing a photo with Cruise.

Some scenes of Mission: Impossible, Dead Reckoning Part One were shot in the Italian capital.

It is scheduled to be released in the US on July 12.
