Yale revokes pro-Palestinian student group’s status after protest encampment

University accuses Yalies4Palestine of violating rules after campus protest ahead of Israeli minister Ben-Gvir’s visit

By Iclal Turan

WASHINGTON (AA) – Yale University has revoked the official status of the pro-Palestinian student group Yalies4Palestine, the campus chapter of Yale Students for Justice in Palestine, following a protest encampment overnight ahead of a visit to the area by far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.

“Because Yalies4Palestine has flagrantly violated the rules to which the Yale College Dean’s Office holds all registered student organizations, Yale College today notified Yalies4Palestine that the College is withdrawing its status as a registered student organization,” the university said in a statement quoted by the Yale Daily News.

Yalies4Palestine has since been removed from Yale Connect, the school’s database of registered student organizations, it added.

Yalies4Palestine denied organizing the protest, but the university cited the group’s social media activity encouraging participation and a public statement allegedly “taking credit” for the demonstration.

The protest, which included tents erected at Beinecke Plaza, reportedly began around 8 p.m. local time Tuesday and was dispersed before midnight after administrative warnings.

Yale also said it is investigating reports of “disturbing antisemitic conduct” at the gathering, though it did not specify the nature of the allegations.
