Yemen’s Houthis accuse US of blocking food, medicine to Gaza amid Israeli onslaught

Houthis say their attacks on ships in Red Sea aim to pressure Israel to halt its war on Gaza

SANAA, Yemen (AA) – Yemen’s Houthi group accused the United States on Thursday of depriving the delivery of food and medicine to the Gaza Strip amid a deadly Israeli onslaught on the Palestinian enclave.

“The US is fighting to deliver ships loaded with goods to Israel, but it prevents food and medicine to Gaza,” Houthi leader Abdulmalik al-Houthi said in a televised speech broadcast by the group’s Al-Masirah television.

He said his group used more than 200 drones and 50 ballistic and cruise missiles in attacking ships suspected to have links with Israel in the Red Sea.

“Houthis will continue their operations in the Red Sea until aid is delivered to Gaza and a cease-fire is reached there,” he added.

There was no US comment on the Houthi accusation.

Tensions have escalated in the Red Sea amid Houthi attacks on Israel-bound ships.

The Houthis say their attacks aim to pressure Israel to halt its deadly onslaught on the Gaza Strip, prompting the US and Britain to launch retaliatory airstrikes against Houthi targets inside Yemen.

The Red Sea is one of the world's most frequently used sea routes for oil and fuel shipments.
