Yemen’s Houthis claim to fire missile into Saudi Arabia
Saudi-led military coalition has yet to verify claim
By Ali Oweida
MAARIB, Yemen (AA) - Yemen’s Houthi militia group on Friday claimed to have fired a “ballistic missile” at an army position in Saudi Arabia’s southwestern Jizan region, according to Yemen’s Houthi-run SABA news agency.
SABA reported that a Houthi missile battery had targeted a Saudi military camp in Jizan with a Badr 1 ballistic missile.
The news agency did not provide any more details.
A Saudi-led military coalition based in Riyadh, for its part, has yet to comment on the Houthis’ assertion.
On Thursday, the Houthis claimed responsibility for a missile attack on an Aramco oil facility in Saudi Arabia’s southern Najran region.
The company, however, quickly denied the claim.
Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has led a military campaign to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government against the Shia Houthi group, which overran much of the country -- including capital Sanaa -- in 2014.
