‘Yet another war crime committed by the Israeli army’: Human Rights Watch on Gaza hospital attack

'When will Western powers open their eyes and pressure their ally to stop this bloodbath?' official tells Anadolu

By Burak Bir

LONDON (AA) – A Human Rights Watch (HRW) official said Tuesday that the bombing of the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza is "yet another war crime committed by the Israeli army, in a list that keeps getting longer, and longer, and longer".

"When will Western powers open their eyes and pressure their ally to stop this bloodbath?" Ahmed Benchemsi, MENA Communications director for HRW, told Anadolu.

More than 500 people were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the hospital late Tuesday, Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told Anadolu.

It comes on day 11 in the conflict, with a growing international chorus of non-governmental groups and world leaders saying the Israeli bombing campaign on the besieged Gaza Strip -- including health care facilities, homes, and houses of worship -- violates international law and may constitute a war crime.

The Palestinian group, Hamas, called the targeting of the hospital an act of "genocide."
