Young woman fatally stabbed in Tokyo
Victim, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead

ISTANBUL (AA) – A young woman was fatally stabbed Tuesday on a street in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, Japan, local media reported.
The incident occurred near a railway station in the Takadanobaba district at around 9:50 a.m. (0050GMT). The victim, believed to be in her 20s, was taken to a hospital but later pronounced dead, Jiji Press reported.
Tokyo’s Metropolitan Police Department arrested a man in his 40s at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. While admitting to stabbing the woman, the suspect told police he did not intend to kill her.
According to Japan News, the woman was reportedly walking alone and live-streaming video when she was suddenly stabbed from the side.
Police said she sustained stab wounds to the neck, head, and chest. A knife, believed to be the weapon used, was recovered at the scene, along with a second knife.
Authorities later upgraded the suspect’s charge to murder and will investigate further, including his motive and mental fitness to stand trial.
