ATHENS (AA) – Seventeen officers of the Greek Navy Frigate Hydra, which was set to be deployed to the Red Sea to participate in the US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian, have resigned from service, local media reported on Friday.

According to reports from multiple news outlets, including Avgi, Documento, and Efsyn, citing the Hellenic Federation of Military Unions (FEOS), the officers submitted their resignations when the daily allowance for the missions was announced as €86 ($93.7), which they found inadequate.

Documento argued that the problems of the frigate and the discontent of the crew seem to have been known to the government, prompting it to hasten the deployment of a warship to the Red Sea.

The report also noted that discontent among officers in the armed forces, particularly in the navy, is not a new phenomenon and has previously resulted in resignations.

In a related development, FEOS accused the military and civilian leadership of the armed forces, especially the navy, of overlooking problems that have been brewing for some time. Describing the situation as very serious, FEOS demanded an urgent meeting with the competent authorities.
