2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship to begin Friday

Türkiye to take on Poland, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Thailand, Croatia in Group B

ANKARA (AA) - The 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship will begin on Friday.

The international volleyball competition, which has been held every four years since 1970, is having its 19th edition, with 24 nations competing between September 23 and October 15.

A total of 6 cities, Lodz, Gliwice and Gdansk in Poland, with Rotterdam, Arnheim and Apeldoorn in the Netherlands, will host the matches in the organization.

Teams that finish their groups in the top four places will advance to the second round. The tournament will see second-round matches between Oct. 4-9, with two groups consisting of eight teams each.

After the second-round matches, the teams that complete their groups in the top four will advance to the quarterfinals.

Quarter and semifinal matches, which will be held on October 11 and 13, respectively, will be played in Apeldoorn and Gliwice.

The tournament will conclude with the third place and final matches to be played in Arnheim on October 15.

Türkiye will take on Poland, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Thailand, and Croatia in Group B.

The Soviet Union is the most successful national team in tournament history, with five titles. The other seven nations that have claimed titles in the organization so far are Japan (3), Cuba (3), China (2), Russia (2), Italy (1), the US (1), and Serbia (1).


The tournament groups are as follows:

Group A: Netherlands, Italy, Belgium, Puerto Rico, Cameroon, Kenya

Group B: Türkiye, Poland, Dominican Republic, South Korea, Thailand, Croatia

Group C: US, Serbia, Germany, Bulgaria, Canada, Kazakhstan

Group D: Brazil, Chinese, Japan, Colombia, Argentina, Czech Republic
