3 more soldiers martyred in PKK attack in SE Turkey

ANKARA (AA) - Three more soldiers were martyred Saturday after a clash with PKK terrorists in southeastern Turkey Friday, the Turkish military said, raising the death toll in the clash to eight.

According to a statement issued by the Turkish General Staff on Saturday, a total of 25 soldiers were injured after PKK terrorists attacked them at a road security checkpoint on a highway located in the Hakkari province’s Cukurca district.

The statement added that after the clash, air-supported operations in the region neutralized eight terrorists.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S., and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers, and village guards have been martyred and more than 5,000 PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
