8 injured as tornado hits southeastern Canada

Many buildings also damaged in Canada’s Ontario province, local media reports

ISTANBUL (AA) – At least eight people were injured and many buildings damaged in Canada’s Ontario province after a tornado hit a southern city on Thursday, local media reported on Friday.

“I can't tell you how incredible it is that nobody has been killed,” said Jeff Lehman, Mayor of Barrie in Ontario, reported CBC news.

Four of the injured are suffering from serious injuries, CBC added.

Citing officials, CBC reported that many people were displaced while 25 buildings were damaged and three were demolished.

“Environment Canada had issued tornado warnings across the region throughout the afternoon, but downgraded those warnings across Ontario in the hours after the twister tore through Barrie,” CBC added.
