ANKARA (AA) - German tennis player Alexander Zverev has been expelled from the Mexican Open after he lashed out at an umpire’s chair with his racket.
The 24-year-old Zverev hit the umpire Alessandro Germani's chair multiple times and verbally abused him following a doubles match in Acapulco.
World number three lost his temper when he and Brazilian partner Marcelo Melo were defeated by Lloyd Glasspool from the UK and Harri Heliovaara of Finland 6-2, 4-6 and 10-6 in men's round of 16 doubles match.
In a Twitter post on Wednesday, ATP called Zverev's act "unsportsmanlike conduct" and confirmed his withdrawal from the entire tournament.
Olympic gold medalist Zverev secured the singles title at Mexican Open in 2021.
