KARACHI, Pakistan (AA) – Abdul Joshi, a young Pakistani mountaineer, scaled Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth, on Monday to become the country's eighth climber to achieve it.

Joshi, who belongs to the scenic Hunza valley of northern Gilgit-Baltista region, which borders neighboring China, was part of a 13-member team that summited the 8,849-meter (29,029 feet) mountain, said Karrar Haidri, the secretary general of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, the country's official mountaineering association.

It came just over a week after Sribaz Khan, another climber from Hunza, reached the top of Mount Everest.

Joshi is the first Pakistani to summit 8,091-meter (25,545-feet) Annapurna, the 10th highest mountain in the world, in 2021.

He also led a 12-member Pakistani team to the first-ever summit of Passu Cones, Pakistan.

Samina Baig is the country's only female climber to scale the world's tallest mountain in 2013.
