Aston Villa draw at Everton, miss chance to level points with English leaders Liverpool

3rd-place Aston Villa have 43 points, Liverpool have 45 to be on top of English Premier League

Aston Villa drew at Everton 0-0 to miss a chance to level points with the Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday.

Third-place Aston Villa, who are having a surprisingly good season, have 43 points while Liverpool are on 45 to be on top of the league.

On Saturday, title contenders Manchester City won at Newcastle United's stadium 3-2 to keep chasing Liverpool.

Coming from the bench, Man City's Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne tallied one goal and one assist for in his first Premier League match since August when he was injured.

Second-place Man City have 43 points.

London archrivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are on 40 points each to be after Aston Villa.

Tottenham drew with Manchester United 2-2 at Old Trafford as Spurs came from behind twice to bag a point in Manchester.


- Girona top Spanish league

Dark horses Girona took a 0-0 draw at Almeria, who are in the Spanish La Liga's last place, to be the league leaders on Sunday when their nearest opponents Real Madrid were in Riyadh for the Spanish Super Cup.

Girona are on 49 points.

Real Madrid beat Barcelona 4-1 to win the Spanish Super Cup on Sunday as Vinicius Junior scores a hat-trick.

In addition to Real Madrid and Barcelona, Atletico Madrid did not play a league match as they were one of the Super Cup competitors.

AC Milan beat Roma 3-1 to stay in the third spot with 42 points.


- Unbeaten German leaders Leverkusen beat Augsburg by late goal

German Bundesliga's unbeaten leaders Bayer Leverkusen won at Augsburg 1-0 on Saturday.

Exequiel Palacios scored a very late goal to bring three points to Leverkusen, who have 45 points now.

Bayern Munich, who won 11th straight Bundesliga title in 2023, beat Hoffenheim 3-0 on Friday.

Second-place Bayern have 41 points but they have a game in hand.

Stuttgart were beaten at Borussia Monchengladbach by 3-1 on Sunday to be third with 34 points.


- PSG beat 10-man Lens in France

French Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) beat 10-man Lens 2-0 on Sunday as Bradley Barcola and Kylian Mbappe were the scorers for the visitors.

PSG boosted their points to 43.

Second-place Nice on Saturday lost to Rennes 2-0 in an away match. Brest beat Montpellier 2-0 on Sunday.

Nice have 35 points after the loss while Brest are on 34 points to be third in Ligue 1 standings.
