Atletico Madrid eliminate Real Madrid from Copa Del Rey

Atletico Madrid beat Real Madrid 4-2 in a Thursday derby to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Spanish Copa del Rey.

The visitors made it 2-2 in the 82nd minute as Joselu headed into the Atletico Madrid net after his teammate Jude Bellingham's quick pass.

In the extra time, Atletico Madrid's French star Antoine Griezmann scored a solo-effort goal after he carried the ball from the right flank, making it 3-2.

Diego Simeone's men cemented a 4-2 win in the 119th minute after Rodrigo Riquelme scored on a counter attack to beat Lunin, which means defending champions Real Madrid have been eliminated from the tournament.

Atletico Madrid, who last won the Copa del Rey in 2013, progressed to the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile on Thursday, Barcelona beat lower division club Unionistas de Salamanca 3-1 to join the last eight.

Athletic Bilbao, Celta Vigo, Girona, Mallorca, Real Sociedad and Sevilla were the other quarterfinalists.
