ANKARA (AA) - The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) on Friday said it will adopt an Electronic Line Calling (ELC) system across all its events from 2025.
The new technology — known as ELC Live — will cover all court lines for "out" calls in all matches, instead of line judges starting two years from now.
"The move is set to optimize accuracy and consistency across tournaments, match courts and surfaces, for players competing in both main draw and qualifying events," the London-based ATP said.
Matches still will be overseen by a chair umpire, but the line judges who determined where shots landed will no longer be present on the court.
ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said line judges have played an important part in the game for years, but innovation and new technologies have to be embraced.
"This is a landmark moment for our sport, and not one we’ve reached without careful consideration.
"Our sport deserves the most accurate form of officiating and we’re delighted to be able to deliver this across our whole Tour from 2025," he said.
The ELC Live system was first tested at the Next Gen ATP Finals in 2017.
