The Australian Capital Territory (ACT) has reported that it has no active coronavirus cases, and it is the first jurisdiction to declare itself free from the virus. The territory is home to some 420,000 people.
ACT Chief Health Officer Kerryn Coleman said the situation is pleasing, however, the epidemic is ongoing and people should keep following directives.
The ACT is expected to gradually relax coronavirus restrictions over the achievement.
More than 3.3 million Australians have downloaded the COVIDSafe app since its launch early this week. The figures were announced on Thursday by chief nursing and midwifery officer, Alison McMillan.
