Barcelona sign Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny as free agent

ISTANBUL (AA) - Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday that Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny joined the Spanish club as a free agent until June 30, 2025.

"The Polish keeper (Szczesny) comes to the Club in unusual circumstances but there is no doubt that his CV speaks for itself," Barca said in a statement.

"During his career, which appeared to have come to an end in the summer, he has played at top clubs such as Arsenal, Roma, and Juventus since leaving his hometown of Warsaw at the age of 16," it added.

Szczesny, 34, previously made appearances for Italy's Roma, and Juventus, and English clubs Arsenal, and Brentford.

The experienced goalie bagged three Italian Serie A titles, three Coppa Italia (Italian Cup) trophies, and two Italian Super Cups with Juventus.

He claimed 84 caps for Poland before retiring from football after the EURO 2024.

In September, Barcelona's German goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen suffered from a serious knee injury in their 5-1 win against Villarreal to be out of action until the end of this season.

Ter Stegen, who joined Barcelona from Germany's Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014, underwent a surgery "on the patella tendon injury in his right knee" last month.
