Basaksehir reaches group stage of Conference League

Istanbul club beats Belgian side Antwerp 3-1, passing playoff round with 4-2 aggregate

ANKARA (AA) - Medipol Basaksehir reached the group stage of the UEFA Europa Conference League after beating Belgian club Royal Antwerp 3-1 on Thursday.

The Istanbul club passed the playoff round with a 4-2 aggregate as the first game ended in a 1-1 draw in Istanbul.

Basaksehir got an early lead with Berkay Ozcan's goal in the eighth minute at Bosuilstadion at Deurne, Belgium.

In the second half, Antwerp equalized the score with a penalty kick from Michael Frey in minute 56. But just two minutes later, Stefano Okaka brought the lead back to the Istanbul club.

Danijel Aleksic relieved Basaksehir fans as he scored a third goal for the Turkish club in the 83rd minute.

The UEFA Europa League and Conference League group draws will be held on Friday in Istanbul.
