Baskonia topple Spanish rivals Real Madrid 76-72 in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague

Victors improve to 2-1 in EuroLeague standings while Real Madrid falls to 1-2

Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz beat their Spanish rivals Real Madrid 76-72 in a Tuesday game for their second win in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season that started earlier this month.

Baskonia secured a home victory in the final seconds in an intense Round 3 match at Vitoria-Gasteiz's Buesa Arena.

Markus Howard, who played less than 18 minutes, scored 15 points to lead Baskonia. Nigerian center Chima Moneke racked up 14 points.

Howard and Moneke were the only Baskonia players to finish in double digits.

Real Madrid's Bosnian forward Dzanan Musa had 17 points as the game's high scorer.

Walter Tavares, a Real Madrid center from Cape Verde, posted a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds in the loss.

Baskonia improved to 2-1 in the EuroLeague standings.

Real Madrid, which is ranked 13th, fell to 1-2 in the tournament.

A Joel Bolomboy-led Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade stunned Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce Beko 76-57 in Istanbul to lead the EuroLeague.

Nemanja Nedovic scored 17 points for the Serbian club, and the visitors' Mike Daum had 14 points.

Fenerbahce's US forward Nigel Hayes-Davis scored a game-high 20 points.

Eight-place Fenerbahce Beko were handed their first loss of the season.

The Round 3 will end with the Barcelona vs. Monaco game on Wednesday in Spain. France's Monaco have two wins in two appearances.

Barcelona lost their opener against Zalgiris Kaunas in Lithuania, but then beat ALBA Berlin in a home game in the previous round.
