Bayern Munich's German Bundesliga title bid hit after loss at Bochum

Defending champions Bayern are 8 points behind unbeaten leaders Bayer Leverkusen

By Can Erozden

Defending champions Bayern Munich were handed a 3-2 loss at Bochum on Sunday to risk their German Bundesliga title bid.

The shocking loss left Thomas Tuchel's side eight points behind unbeaten leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Leverkusen are having a dream season as Xabi Alonso's men have 58 points in 22 league matches.

On Sunday, visitors Bayern took a 1-0 lead as Jamal Musiala scored from a narrow angle in the 14th minute at Vonovia Ruhrstadion.

Bochum's Takuma Asano leveled the game in the 38th minute. The home team came back near the end of the first half as Keven Schlotterbeck scored a header against Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano was sent off after a foul in the area.

Kevin Stoger scored from the penalty spot in the 78th minute as Bochum extended their lead to 3-1.

In the 87th minute, English star Harry Kane scored an easy chance for Bayern Munich, making it 2-3. But Bochum secured the victory.

Mid-table Bochum boosted their points to 25 in the Bundesliga.

Second-place Bayern Munich lost to leaders Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 on Feb. 10, and then the 11-time consecutive Bundesliga champions were beaten by Italy's Lazio 1-0 in the UEFA Champions League last 16 on Feb. 14.

Bayern Munich have now lost three matches in a row.

In the German league, Bayern Munich must win their matches first and then rely on Leverkusen's mistakes.

In the next fixture, Bayern Munich will host RB Leipzig on Feb. 24.

Leverkusen will face Mainz 05 in a home match on Friday.
