Belgium beat reigning champions Portugal 1-0 in Euro 2020

ISTANBUL (AA) - Belgium defeated reigning champions Portugal 1-0 Sunday to advance to the Euro 2020 quarterfinals.

The Belgian team broke the deadlock when Eden Hazard made a classy long-range shot in the 42nd minute.

In the 48th minute, Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne was subbed off due to an injury and replaced by Dries Mertens.

Neither team was able to score a goal in the second half, so the game ended 1-0 at Seville's La Cartuja Stadium.

Following the result, Belgium will face Italy in the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, Italy claimed a 2-1 victory over Austria in extra time to qualify for the quarterfinals on Saturday.
