Borussia Dortmund forward Haller to undergo 'chemotherapeutic treatment'

Earlier this month, German football club signed 28-year-old French-born Ivorian player from Ajax

ANKARA (AA) – Borussia Dortmund announced on Saturday that Sebastien Haller, who was diagnosed with a "malignant testicular tumor" after signing with the German football club, will undergo chemotherapeutic treatment following his testicular tumor surgery.

"Haller will therefore have to undergo chemotherapeutic treatment," Borussia Dortmund said in a statement, confirming that an examination showed "a malignant testicular tumor."

So, the 28-year-old will be out of action for several months.

"Sebastien will now receive the best possible treatment. The chances of recovery are very good," Borussia Dortmund Sporting Director Sebastian Kehl said, wishing the Ivorian forward and his family "a lot of strength and optimism" in the process.

On July 6, Borussia Dortmund signed Haller from Dutch club Ajax.

The French-born Ivorian player won back-to-back top-tier Dutch Eredivisie titles in 2021 and 2022 while playing for Ajax.

Haller scored 21 goals to be the Dutch league's top scorer in the 2021-22 season.

Last season, he scored 11 goals in the Champions League.
