ISTANBUL (AA) - The Brooklyn Nets parted ways with head coach Steve Nash, the NBA confirmed Tuesday.
"Since becoming head coach, Steve was faced with a number of unprecedented challenges, and we are sincerely grateful for his leadership, patience and humility throughout his tenure," General Manager Sean Marks said in a statement.
Nash, 48, took to Twitter for an emotional farewell to the Nets.
"It was a pleasure to work with the players, performance team and front office everyday. I'm especially grateful to my coaching staff and video room who are a talented group with so much character and professionalism," he wrote.
Nash, who went to the Nets in September 2020, is out as head coach after a 2-5 start.
He was an eight-time NBA All-Star and played for the Phoenix Suns, Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers.
Nash, from Canada, racked up 10,335 career assists and is third on the NBA's all-time assist list and retired from playing in 2015.
He was honored with the 2005 and 2006 Most Valuable Player awards while with the Suns.
