ANKARA (AA) - Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba's FIFA World Cup gold medal, which he won in 2018, was stolen in a home burglary, the French star said on Tuesday.
Pogba told French daily Le Figaro that burglars broke into his house on March 15 during a UEFA Champions League match between Manchester United and Atletico Madrid at Old Trafford.
Atletico Madrid eliminated Man Utd in the Champions League Round of 16 after a 1-0 win in England (2-1 on aggregate) and Pogba was subbed in the second half.
Pogba said that when he arrived at his home after the match, he found that it had been broken into and that three suspects had stolen his safe.
"(In the safe) There were jewels of my mother, my world champion medal," Pogba said, adding that his two children were at home with their nanny during the burglary.
"She (nanny) heard everything, and called my wife and security. Then she locked herself with the boys in a room."
Pogba added that the nanny was in shock for several days, but that his children were "well."
The 29-year-old French central midfielder helped Les Bleus win the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia as France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final.
For their World Cup success, each French national team player, including Pogba, was awarded a gold medal.
Pogba joined Manchester United from Italy's Juventus in 2016.
He won the 2017 UEFA Europa League title with the English club.
Pogba scored 39 goals and made 51 assists in 229 matches for Manchester United in his two spells at Old Trafford.
His contract at the club will run out in June.
