Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz on Sunday stunned 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia to win the 2024 Wimbledon men's singles title.

Third seed Alcaraz sealed his second Wimbledon victory after beating world No. 2 Djokovic in straight sets of 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 and (7-4) in the final at the Centre Court. The showdown lasted for two hours and 27 minutes.

The 21-year-old Spanish athlete led Djokovic by two sets 6-2, 6-2 in the final, which was quite unexpected.

But in the third set, Djokovic tried to fight back, making the score 4-4.

Alcaraz took a 5-4 lead and then he was on the verge of the winning the title in the third set. However Alcaraz's mistakes in game 10 made it 5-5. Djokovic came back to take a 6-5 lead after Alcaraz's unforced error.

The Spanish athlete tied the game 12. As both players were locked at 6-6, a tie-breaking set had to be played.

Alcaraz won the tie-break set 7-4, which meant he secured the Wimbledon title.

This is Alcaraz's fourth Grand Slam success as he previously won the French Open (2024), Wimbledon (2023), and the US Open (2022) once.

One of history’s greatest tennis players, Djokovic, a seven-time Wimbledon champion, returned home as this year's Wimbledon runner-up.
