ISTANBUL (AA) - Taiwan on Sunday said that the Chinese military conducted military drills on Dongshan Island in the southern part of Fujian province, which faces Taiwan.
“Earlier this morning, we detected PLA (People's Liberation Army) aircraft and ground troops conducting military drills at Dacheng Bay located in Dongshan Island. Taiwan armed forces are closely monitoring the situation with our ISR (intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance) system in response,” the Taiwanese Defense Ministry said on X.
Last week, the Taiwanese Defense Ministry said that Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong sailed to the Western Pacific. Besides, the ministry said, it also detected 13 PLA aircraft “11 of which crossed the median line or entered our southwestern air defense identification zone (ADIZ).”
On Sept. 18, It said China sent 103 warplanes toward Taiwan in a day and 40 of them “crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait or entered Taiwan’s southwest, southeast ADIZ.”
Beijing neither recognizes the median line nor ADIZ.
China considers Taiwan as its “breakaway province” while Taipei has insisted on its independence since 1949.
