Cyclist Sarah Storey wins 15th Paralympic gold of her career

British athlete smashes her own world record in Women's C5 3000-meter Individual Pursuit

ANKARA (AA) - Sarah Storey on Wednesday won gold medal in Women's C5 3,000-meter Individual Pursuit at the Tokyo Paralympic Games 2020.

The British athlete crossed the line in 3:27.057, smashing her own world record by four seconds and eliminating her compatriot Crystal Lane-Wright in the all-British final.

Lane-Wright settled for silver with 3:35.061.

This was Storey's 15th gold medal of her Paralympic career.

Being a former swimmer, she won two gold medals in 100-meter Backstroke and 200-meter Individual Medley at the 1992 Summer Paralympics.

At the 1996 Paralympics, Storey clinched three more golds in 100-meter Breaststroke, 100-meter Backstroke and 200-meter Individual Medley.

The 43-year-old athlete won two more Paralympic gold medals, this time in cycling including Time Trial and Individual Pursuit in 2008.

At the 2012 Paralympics, she bagged four golds in Individual Pursuit, 500-meter Time Trial, Time Trial and Road Race.

She won three more gold at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Individual Pursuit, Time Trial and Road Race.

With 15 gold medals, Storey became the second most successful British Paralympian after swimmer Mike Kenny who has 16 gold medals.
